Workshop to guide Insight Development Grants applicants

A workshop is being held next week to assist researchers in applying for Insight Development Grants (IDG).The grants support research in its initial stages, enabling the development of new research questions, as well as experimentation with new methods, theoretical approaches and ideas.They also provide the opportunity for established researchers to explore new research questions and approaches distinct from their previous or ongoing research.Through the grant, the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) provides funding for short-term research development projects, of up to two years, proposed by individuals or teams.The workshop, to be held May 25 in Plaza 600F, will provide guidance regarding IDG applications, walking participants through the process from idea to submission.Brock faculty who sit on SSHRC’s IDG review committees, faculty who have been successful in past SSHRC competitions and staff from the Office of Research Services are among those who will be offering information and suggestions.Participants are asked to bring ideas about potential research projects for the IDG competition, as well as any drafts.Topics to be covered include: An overview of the IDG application process The importance of plain language in the project summary What reviewers are looking for in applications Choosing the right committee The importance of a strong CCV Tips on re-applying to SSHRCTo register for the workshop, which runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., e-mail [email protected] by May 19 with the subject line: IDG Writing Workshop.
